We have come from close by, and we have come from far. We've come escaping wars and persecution, and we've come here to look for jobs and economic opportunities. We've come knocking on Bay Area's doors to study and to work. We're part of the rich diversity of the area straddling San Francisco Bay, and we're here...here to stay.
Just as there is no single American experience, there is no single American Muslim experience. Listen to our stories, watch our videos, and learn a little bit more about our lives and why we call the Bay Area home.

Listen to the stories of individuals from different backgrounds and ethnicities and their experiences as Muslims in the Bay Area
History of Muslims in the Bay Area
Many non-Muslim Americans living in the Bay Area are seeing an increase of Muslims into this region and tend to judge this diverse group as one individual with a clearly cut-out thought process(Muslim Life in America) . But this is not the case at all, as many have their own experiences as well as their own interpretations of personal and more universal principles.
Today in America, more specifically in the Bay Area, we are seeing that even within the religious unity and ethnic diversity, there is tension and ignorance between Muslims and their brothers and sisters in Islam (Ghanea Bassiri, chapter 6. 2010). Many immigrants--whether from a second or third world country, another state in the U.S., or even somewhere else in California—don’t understand that these Muslims who come from all over the world are not only bringing their luggage filled with dreams and hopes, but that they are also bringing in their experiences, which are key to understanding a person’s identity.
The Muslim immigrants who came to the United States throughout the 20th century came in waves from different parts of the world for different reasons(Ghanea Bassiri, chapter 4. 2010).
